The following is an actual IM exchange between Luis and Natalia:

Luis: i think we need to talk about the origin of “mertinso”
so people aren’t confused

Natalia: right
we had that conversation at your break room at work
it was a dark and stormy night

Luis: dark and stormy my foot

Natalia: you had nothing but burritos to eat
i brought you a delicious homemade dinner
you told me i had to change my name, i said no

Luis: what!?!?

Natalia: so we compromised and came up with mertinso

Luis: no no no
i mentioned how hyphenating last names was kind of weird
so i proposed we fuse our last names together
and we both take on the “mertinso”
merino+martins=mertinso
:D
