starting all over again
February 28, 2010
I know this probably sounds ridiculous, but I have been so excited to finish the bar so that I could have the time to go back to couponing. It kills me to go to the store and have to buy things full price when I know how much I could be saving. So after I got home from work today, I set out to get reorganized.
Unfortunately, these all had to go in the trash. Sigh. Time to start all over again.
relief and some fun
February 27, 2010
After hanging out on a hillside for several hours, we were relieved that nothing bad happened to my parents’ hometown and they were free to return home.
Having heard the good news, Luis and I were able to unglue ourselves from the TV where we had been watching live coverage of the impending tsunami. Our friend, Billy, (who was one of Luis’ groomsmen at our wedding) was performing stand-up comedy at a local venue. So we ventured out of the house to go see him perform. And let me tell you, the boy sure can tell a good story.
No night out with the guys could be complete without an impromptu decision to go get some food. And because we were in Provo, where options of restaurants are very limited when it is 10 p.m., we went to one of our very favorites, Chili’s.
Once upon a time, these guys were all students and lived together. Now everyone is getting jobs and moving on with their lives. Strange.
the tsunami
February 27, 2010
I awoke this morning to an email from my dad saying that a tsunami was headed their way. It feels strange to know something of potentially devastating magnitude is coming and yet have no ability to do anything to help. My parents have evacuated their home, and now we just have to wait to see what happens.
my hero

Notice the snow out the window and someone (who is most certainly not me) driving in said snow just so that I could get back to Las Vegas on time and have someone to lean on when I start panicking. I love him.
friendly friday
February 20, 2010
I don’t particularly enjoy days that start with snow. What makes these types of days worse is when you have to get up, go out in the cold, in order to take your car to get fixed (have I mentioned I will never, ever buy another Ford for as long as I live?). To make up for the unpleasant morning, Luis took me to get donuts at his favorite place.
After donuts (which, btw, are no where near as good as the ones from Luis’ favorite shop in Dallas), we returned home so that I could study, and Luis could work on The Place. A few hours later, we met up for lunch with our friend, Sherry. We had a great time comparing iPhone apps, discussing diets, and catching up on the latest blog posts.
Our friends, Daniel and Katey, recently had their first child. So after more studying and working on The Place, we were off to meet baby Kylee:

When Luis was single and living at the Branbury, he came up with “Toaster Strudel Tuesday” (aka TST) as a way of having something fun to do with friends and get to know new people. He even came up with a TST t-shirt that he would give away for different contests. Well, when we found out that Daniel and Katey (who both played an integral parts in the social life at the Branbury) were going to have their first child, we knew that their baby would need his/her own little TST onesie!
Luis: Let me quickly explain the origins of the “DK Crew” onesie. Back in our old Branbury Days, we liked to play Super Smash Bros. Melee… alot. The background music for the DK Jungle stage, was a rap that went: “He’s bigger, he’s stronger, He’s faster too… He’s the first member of the D.K. Crew, huh!” And since Daniel and Katey’s first initials make up “DK” they officially dubbed themselves “The DK Crew,” so when we collectively refer to Daniel and Katey, we usually call them just “DK.” The onesie says: “DK Crew, Official Member.”
Lest you be fooled into thinking I did nothing but socialize yesterday, right after this I went back to the library for more studying while Luis made a short appearance at a hockey game and then went out for “dinner with the guys.”
lunchtime with the guys (aka basecamp)
February 18, 2010
Luis has some pretty great friends, and he is lucky enough to go to school with some of them. So twice a week he gets together with these friends for lunch at the school cafeteria. What ends up happening is that on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, as I’m sitting in my office catching up on my google reader and eating whatever lunch I’ve packed for myself, I see the calendar and get a teensy bit jealous:
Luis: It’s called BASECAMP!
So what if I refuse to call it what he wants me to call it? The calendar says “Lunchtime with the guys” and that is what I will continue to call it (did I mention I’m a teensy bit jealous?).
Well, since I happened to be in town on a weekday, I decided to join them. And what a wonderful experience it was. We talked, we laughed, we shrac-ed. It was exactly what I had hoped lunchtime with the guys would be.
Luis: Now, onto some clarifications… First off, I think my friends are important enough to have names.. they’re Spencer and Brent, and on-occasion Kelvin. Secondly, it IS, HAS BEEN, and FOREVER WILL BE known as BASECAMP. Brent & I have hung out at school since we first became schoolmates back in 2007. Thirdly, I loved having my wife there. The end.
