hypochondriacs beware

I began watching this show on hulu last night. I know it has been popular for some time. My thoughts? My husband and my sister-in-law should never, ever watch this show or they will think they have every rare disease under the planet.

maybe a teensy weensy bit irrational

When I don’t hear from Luis, I tend to just to irrational conclusions. Tonight, I tried to IM Luis before leaving work. No response. I called him when I was halfway home. No answer. I called again 5 minutes later. No answer. I called again 5 minutes after that. No answer. I called him one more time when I got home. No answer. So then I assumed he was either a) was in a car accident and dead on the side of the road, b) had a massive heart attack in his room and no one found him, or c) he finally found a noose store. I know, I know, this is morbid and completely irrational, but I can’t help it.

Turns out he was perfectly fine, and had just forgotten his phone at home.

Clickwheel vs. Touchscreen

On my most recent drive to-and-from Las Vegas, I was re-inforced with the idea that driving and trying to listen to music on the iPod Classic’s clickwheel is much safer than trying to navigate the iPhone’s iPod App touchscreen. With the click wheel, in order to skip songs, or pause, or anything, you can actually feel what your pressing without the need to look at the device. It even offers feedback sound as you navigate through albums, or playlists, etc …

Whereas with the iPhone, you HAVE to look at the friggin’ thing, and it is ANNOYING. I set my phone to NOT auto-unlock so I didn’t have to unlock it every time I wanted to change the song, but it still locked.

I’ve made this claim before, and I will continue to do so… an iPhone is not, and will never be an iPod. I look forward to the day where an iPod Classic will be under my possession once more.

Immigrant is a bad word

I don’t like how the word “immigrant” has become a word that conjures up negative feelings. My parents are immigrants. All of my dad’s brothers and sisters are immigrants. My wife and her whole family are immigrants.

There was a rally held yesterday on Immigration Reform up in SLC, and here are some of the comments that were left on this story by the INSIGHTFUL KSL readers:

The INS should be set up on every corner for this thing.

Drop a net!

I have a question, if they are illegal then can they legally march and protest our laws?

Why is it assumed that just because a group of people want immigration reform, they are all automatically ILLEGAL!?

Yes, illegal immigration is wrong. Yes, lying about your papers, and sneaking into this country is wrong. Of course, ducking out of paying taxes and free-loading off the system is wrong….. But, what is wanting a better life for yourself and your family? What is wanting to taste the opportunities of this country (that most here are simply born into)?

Conservative Joe:That’s fine! But, if THEY want a better life for THEMselves, THEY need to come to OUR country legally!!! I mean, I don’t blame THEM, THEIR country sucks. OURS is the best country in the world!!!!!!!

Luis: Um, Okay… but doing so isn’t exactly easy. If legal immigration was something that was simple, then I doubt we’d have such a HUGE illegal immigration problem.

Conservative Joe:You’re stupid and don’t know what you’re talking about. So, if THEY want to come to OUR country… do it legally!!! I don’t care how difficult or painstaking a process it is!!

Luis: So, what’s wrong for immigrants (LEGAL ones) calling for some sort of reform? Why is it automatically assumed that what they are looking for is officials to allow illegals in, and not help reform existing immigration laws.

Conservative Joe:Don’t be ridiculous, Luis. WE just can’t have every Mexican Paco wander over the border and apply to be a citizen. OUR country would be infested THEM. THEY would all come over here and leach off OUR government.

Which leads me to believe that here, in the United States and for some reason especially in the wonderful land of Utah, immigrant is a bad word. If immigration laws were to suddenly change and the process of becoming legal was made easier, the clowns over at Fox News would be up-in-arms… Why? Because to THEM, not everyone on the planet is deserving of the rights the Declaration of Independence calls for.

I understand that letting everyone in as a citizen could cause catastrophic problems. But, what is wrong with wanting to believe in the principles and ideals this country was founded on? Equal opportunity for ALL… and not JUST people with white skin, or that speak perfect english.

A Birthday Experiment

I always find people’s birthday wishes (who ONLY happen to be reminded by Facebook that it’s my birthday) less meaningful, because, they didn’t REALLY remember. So this year, Facebook will NOT be notifying ANYONE that it’s my birthday.

For those who will remember, a HUGE pre-emptive “THANK YOU!”

Speaking of brackets

Hulu has been putting on their little version of March Madness with this season’s TV shows. Tomorrow they’re wrapping up Week 3 of votes and I have some thoughts on some of the results:

30 Rock vs. Parks & Recreation

All I’ve heard about this season of 30 Rock is how bad it’s been. I don’t know if it’s just me, but out of all of NBC’s Thursday Night shows, 30 Rock is the one that makes me consistently laugh the MOST (Yes, more than Community). So, am I crazy for thinking this season of 30 Rock is awesome?! I guess so, because apparently Parks & Rec has beat it. (Boo!)

Modern Family vs. Community

This match comes from Week 2. While I am very much a fan of both of these shows, if I had to choose one or the other, it would definitely have to be Modern Family. It’s funny, has an Arrested Development vibe, and yet manages to ground their characters and actually makes them likable. Truth be told, I was kind of iffy about Community in its first 2 or 3 episodes.

The Simpsons vs. Castle
