Blast from the Past: The Quiet Game
July 20, 2010
Here we have another “Blast from the Past” feature. This short production was produced in my Cinema Essentials class in the Fall of 2007. The assignment was to write, plan, shoot, and edit a 5-minute movie (with no dialogue). There were 5 guys in my group, and we each edited a cut. Not only did I star as the protagonist, but this version is also my edit of the film, The Quiet Game.
I’m curious to hear any feedback on my (less-than-stellar) performance!
Also, if you’re interested to see what another cut of the film looks like, here it is:
The Video Conference
July 16, 2010
It was 8:30 PM and Natalia and I were settling into our evening when I received a phone call.
“Hey,” said the familiar voice on the other line– a voice that undoubtedly belonged to my sister.
“What are you doing?” she asked.
“Nothing. Natalia’s studying, and I’m just hangin’ out,” I replied.
“Can you get online? We need to have a conference!” she exclaimed while (I’m sure) flinging her arms into the air.
Now, you see, Natalia, Carolina, and I often “conference” by having voice chat conversations over Gmail chat, so this isn’t an uncommon thing. Usually a conference is called when we need to all discuss pressing family business, or upcoming event planning.
“Carolina needs to conference,” I told Natalia. I go over to the table where she was studying and she pulled up Gmail on her laptop. To our surprise, we saw Carolina is inviting us to have a Video chat conversation. I accept, only to behold…
OUR ADORABLE NEPHEW ABEL!
Here, Abel shows us how he plays basketball.
Later, it’s time for “night-night,” but, he doesn’t stay put for very long.

Here, Abel is giving his Tia Carolina a high-five!
Natalia thought it was humorous how we’re all captivated by a 21-month old being able to open the door.
It was fun watching him interact with his “cousin” Hurley!
You’ll notice, I’m giving Abel the high-five, and he proceeds to give it to me on-screen!
Later, Abel shows us how he plays “futbol.”
Afterward, Abel did go “night-night” and we chatted with someone who preferred staying anonymous.

Glen and Aline!

Well, technically my aunt, Aline, and her husband, Glen, did not actually come to Las Vegas just to see us. They were here to celebrate Glen’s birthday and their anniversary. Of course, that didn’t stop them from wanting to take us out to dinner. So we picked them up from the airport and headed to one of our favorites, Lucille’s BBQ. We joked, we laughed, we complained about our waitress who was trying to hurry us out of the restaurant even though we arrived a full half hour before closing thanks to my awesome driving skills. All in all, a great time was had by all (I hope).
It has arrived

That’s right Mertinso fans, the moment you have been waiting for all Summer has finally arrived! After submitting the design, having it rejected, then resubmitting and having it approved (I needed to remove the mertinso.com URL), my little bundle of joy is here!
Hmm, what could be inside this plain white envelope…?
Oh, look who it’s from!!
FINALLY!!
Thanks for following along with this epic story of tragedy and triumph!
Blast from the Past: Transformers
July 12, 2010
Back in 2008, my roommates and I put together a Transformers short for a Ward activity. We made the costumes, filmed, and edited the whole thing ourselves.
For those newer Mertinso fans who didn’t get a chance to watch it the first time, here it is again for your viewing pleasure:
