we went to see the wizard
May 31, 2011

As you probably know, Luis and I really love plays. We decided to go to a local production of the Wizard of Oz. We took our friends’ daughter, Bella, with us. She didn’t seem to mind going on a date with us too much :)

I thought the production was good. Luis wasn’t so enthusiastic. The strange thing was that instead of having a normal set, they had a screen on stage, and the pictures on the screen changed depending on the scene.

But hey, for a $10 ticket, you can’t complain too much.
birchbox
May 30, 2011
It is Birchbox time again! For those who may not be familiar with Birchbox, it is a monthly subscription service. You pay $10, and they send you samples of deluxe beauty products. Before we get to this month’s Birchbox, I want show you what I liked/disliked from last month’s box:
This month’s Birchbox is all about elegant style in honor of Mother’s Day. The packaging is back to the bright pink Birchbox is known for.

As always, everything comes packaged neatly inside the box:

And on to the products:

This was the Birchbox “treat” this month. Pretty lame.

I can’t really describe the scent of this soap. But soap is soap so it is just going to go in the guest bathroom. The full size is 6.8 FL oz and retails for $12.50. They sent a 1.1 oz sample, which is probably more than enough for my guests :)

I haven’t decided if I love this smell or if it reminds me of grandmas. I need to try it out to see how it smells on me. The full size is 50 ML and retails for $80. I received a 1.5 ML sample so not a whole lot, but I don’t know that I will end up using much of it anyway.

I’m excited to try this lotion. I’ve heard great things about Ahava. The full size is 3.4 oz and retails for $20. I received a 0.68 oz sample so about $4 worth of the product.

This is the one product I was truly excited about seeing. I had watched some Birchbox YouTube videos, and it seemed everyone got one of these shadows in their boxes this month. The only thing I was a little concerned about (before getting my box) was what color I was going to end up with. From the videos I watched, it looked like everyone got a different color. Some were fine, others a little scary (someone got a bright orange color). So I was hoping for a normal color in mine that I would actually end up using. The color they sent me is called “prize” and it looks like it is right up my alley. They sent a full size shadow, which retails for $18.

30 sundays of truth

Day 13 → A band or artist that has gotten you through some tough days.

On days when I was upset as a teenager, I turned to good ol’ Alanis for some angry girl music.
date night at pin kaow
May 28, 2011
Luis and I love eating out. There is just something about the combination of a great atmosphere, good food, and one another for company that just makes eating out one of our favorite things to do.
Last time we went to Pin Kaow was in celebration of the pregnancy (pre-morning sickness). After all of these months, we’ve finally been able to go back. We had our favorites:

Pad See Ew

Masaman Curry

We also added the Cream Cheese Shrimp Tempura this time around, and it was delicious!

As always, we ended our meal with sweet orange slices :)

Day 12 → Something you never get compliments on.

This week’s “truth” was kind of difficult to come up with. Coming up with something that people compliment me on, easy. I hear that one all the time. But something that no one compliments me on? Um, if I never hear it, how am I supposed to come up with something? Well, I think I managed to figure something out. My ability to eat. No one ever compliments me on being a good eater :) I guess when you’re over the age of 5, you’re just expected to be able to eat a variety of foods. And I’ve taken my palate for granted in the past. But now that I’ve had so many food aversions, I believe that eating a variety of foods is something to be complimented :)
date night at shobu
May 21, 2011
From the outside, Shobu isn’t much to look at. In fact, I probably would have never set foot in the establishment if it weren’t for the fact that we had a Groupon that we had already purchased, so we needed to use it.

It is a little better once you’re inside.

But like I said, we had a Groupon we needed to use. We bought the Groupon for $20 and were able to get $40 worth of food. Nothing on the menu was off-limits as far as the Groupon is concerned. As we searched the menu for what we wanted to order, the waitress brought us some spicy soup.

Luis liked the soup. I only managed a sip, and it made my insides burn.

Fortunately, by then we were ready to order, and we started with some egg rolls. To be honest, these were kind of run of the mill. They tasted about the same as the store-bought kind.

After that, it was on to the good stuff. I ordered these cream cheese and crab filled shrimp. They were delicious and I almost didn’t want to share them with Luis. But I decided I should be nice and let him have one.

I also ordered the tempura shrimp roll, which had a really yummy sauce that was a tiny bit on the sweet side.
My only complaint (other than the egg rolls not being that great) is the fact that I was really limited in my sushi choices since I’m really not supposed to be eating raw fish. There were so many kinds of sushi I would have loved to try, but I couldn’t. Some day, when I’m not pregnant anymore, I’ll go back and eat all sorts of delicious raw fish :)

Luis (who is not pregnant and can eat all the raw fish he wants) ordered the Dragon Roll and the Vegas Roll.
As we were getting ready to leave, 2 couples showed up together. They were seated and commenced ordering their sake. Turns out they had Groupons too. Each couple had one. But you’re only supposed to have one Groupon per table. So one of the girls made a huge fuss about it and was really mad at the staff for telling them that they couldn’t both use their Groupons. While the other girl was trying to be accommodating and told the waiter that she and her date would just move to another table. Eventually the rude girl got her way, and they were all able to sit together.

Now, I understand how someone may be a little annoyed, but it wasn’t the waiter’s fault that the restaurant has a policy of only using one Groupon per table (that actually seems pretty normal to me). It really bothers me when people aren’t nice to staff, especially when they are trying to go out of their way to please you.
Ready for the end of the world
May 20, 2011
Seeing as tomorrow is the end of the world… I thought it appropriate to purchase THIS t-shirt. (It didn’t help that this sucker was also on clearance).

Bonus points if you know what this shirt is actually referencing (which is the ONLY reason I wanted it to begin with…)
