genius
November 30, 2011
Don’t you think genius should be spelled with a J? I think it should be. I obviously wasn’t an English major, otherwise I might actually know why genius is spelled with a G instead of a J. Anyways, this has nothing to do with spelling. What it does have to do with is an awesome idea I had this morning…which I’m willing to share with you as long as you’re willing to split the royalties with me when you become rich for making it happen.
You see, I put a load of my work clothes in the washing machine last night before I went to bed. This morning I put them in the dryer to dry while I showered and got ready. And if you’re anything like me, you probably love to wear warm clothes right out of the dryer on cold mornings. Then I had the idea: someone should invent a small capacity, energy efficient dryer. Each morning, you just pop in your outfit for the day, and 5 minutes later it would be nice and warm and ready to wear. That would put a smile on my face every morning.
Sadly, no such thing exists (at least not that I know of). So for now, I’ll just keep using my average-sized, non-energy efficient dryer that came ready to use with our rental.

There is nothing like putting your child in her exersaucer (to get some much-needed baby exercise… after all, she did spend the majority of her weekend being held and coddled by her adoring grandparents), only to realize that the flashing lights and sounds which catch her attention aren’t working. That is what you get when you buy a secondhand exersaucer at a consignment. The rest of my evening goes something like this:
- - Get the baby all loaded up in her car seat
- - Get her into the car
- - Realize baby doesn’t have a bow on her head and run back into the house to grab one
- - Don’t find one on the coffee table and decide it is best to just go without the bow (gasp!)
- - Drive all the way to the grocery store
- - Politely thank the door greeter for spending a few too many minutes telling me my child is beautiful then proceeding to give me her child’s life story
- - Get batteries for the exersaucer
- - Realize I might as well get lettuce while I’m at the store
- - Remember that it would be nice to also have some hairspray
- - Grab a pack of ponytail holders while I’m in the haircare aisle, as it seems that I can never find mine despite the fact that it feels like I buy a new pack every other day
- - Pay for items, go return my cart and see that someone has forgotten a case of water in a shopping cart
- - Stop to take a picture for blogging purposes

- - Consider taking the case of water (it was paid for after all), but decide to leave it where it is bc that is the most honest thing to do, and I can’t possibly hold a case of water, a bag of random items I just purchased, my purse, and a car seat
- - Get home and replace the batteries in said exersaucer
- - Go to put away the batteries only to discover that we had an extra pack of the same exact batteries… ugh.
- - Decide that I deserve cinnamon rolls for my troubles. Yum.
- - Go blog about the night’s events.
flying in an airplane
November 28, 2011
Graciela’s first flight was a success. She guzzled down her bottle upon takeoff and then slept most of the rest of the way to Texas.

When she finally awoke, she enjoyed looking out the window to see the sights.

And gawking at the interesting sights on board.

Our way back to Las Vegas was pretty much the same. Looking out the window mesmerized by the flashing lights while we waited to take off:

I tried to give her a bottle when we took off, but she was so tired that she went right to sleep.

The flight attendant and I had to get creative to save her formula (once the bottle is opened you only have 1 hour to finish it or refrigerate otherwise it supposedly goes bad). So we used a motion sickness bag and ice to keep the bottle nice and cool.

Graciela woke up about 10 minutes before we landed, just in time to stare at all of the crazy people on the flight.

donuts and bread winners
November 27, 2011
Rounding off our Dallas dining adventures…
First, no trip to Texas is complete without a trip to Luis’ neighborhood donut shop. The little Asian lady who owns the shop has been there for over a decade and remembers most of her customers, Luis included.

I woke up at 6:30 a.m. with Graciela wanting her pacifier to be put back into her mouth, and the first thing I thought about were these donuts. I couldn’t go back to sleep, and by 7:15 a.m. I was waking up Luis and Carolina to see what they wanted. Carolina and I made a quick trip to the shop, then home to devour them.

Later that evening came a trip to Bread Winners Bakery Bistro. Carolina ordered their Gouda fondue. Really, how can you go wrong with a bowl of cheese sauce and lightly toasted, buttered bread slices? You just can’t.

Luis ordered a slice of the neopolitan cake. Not one of my favorites (tasted a bit too much cherry), but he seemed to enjoy it.

I went with the caramel bread pudding. Sooo delicious! It was not overly soggy, nor was it to dry. And the thick layer of caramel sauce on top was nothing short of spectacular (for me… but I absolutely LOVE caramel so you can’t really go wrong with caramel anything in my opinion).

mi cocina
November 26, 2011
It is no secret that when Luis and Carolina unite, restaurants must be visited. This weekend’s first visit was Mi Cocina.

We had Queso Blanco with chips as an appetizer.

Graciela and her Abuelita had a good chat while we waited for our food.

I had the beef brisket tacos. A little greasy but seriously delicious.

Luis’ chicken quesadilla was also a hit.

Carolina’s enchilada plate. Both she and Luis seemed to enjoy this one.
happy thanksgiving
November 25, 2011
I don’t know about you, but our Thanksgiving was nice and relaxing. We woke up, did some grocery shopping, and then I went about cooking up a storm with the help of Carolina.

Graciela waited patiently playing and sleeping.

And a mere 5 hours later, it was all ready. Turkey, pork loin, vegetables, green bean casserole, stuffing, mashed potatoes, rolls, sweet potato casserole, pumpkin pie, and Daisy’s special green jello.

Even Graciela had her own special little turkey leg :)

I won’t name any names, but it was such a relaxing day that someone never even changed out of pajamas. It was nice to have spent the holiday with family. Now the countdown for Christmas begins!
Belated!
