Blog posts about things we absolutely love and adore.

iHeart: DT Deluxe

Bah!!! I’ve scoured the internets for a photo/commercial/writeup about the new DT Deluxe burger from Wendy’s. But I’ve found almost nothing. (Does it exist!??!)

(DT stands for “Dave Thomas”)

Anyway, I’ve been finding myself CRAVING this burger lately. They put this special sauce on it that is making my stummy rumbly (yes, stummy). Also, the buttered buns are toasted, and they use lots of yummy vegetables. I’ve been cutting back on Fast Food, so looks like I won’t be going anytime soon. :-/

THIS is the best I could find (courtesy of this blog). This gross photo does the burger NO justice. Seriously, there is no mention of it on the Wendy’s website anywhere.

iHeart: Chili’s

Let me start off with a conversation that Natalia and I had earlier today:

Luis: I love you.

Natalia: How much do you love me?

Luis: I love you more than I love Chili’s.

Natalia: (sincerely) That’s the sweetest thing you’ve ever said to me.

My wife knows me very well… Chili’s is one my favorite places on this planet. Walking in there, is like putting on a comfortable pair of old jeans. I kid you not.

Seriously, I have probably been to Chili’s well OVER 300 times in the last 10 years… that averages to at LEAST 2.5 visits/month… which sounds about right.

Now that Natalia is pregnant and can’t stand the smell of ANY food, I haven’t been to Chili’s in about 2 months… that’s saying a LOT. I miss Chili’s and can’t wait until the day when Natalia comes home from work and says:

Natalia: Lulu, I’m starving! Let’s go to Chili’s!!

iHeart: Charlie Chaplin

Along with the film editing class this semester, I also took Major Figures in Cinema. This particular section focused primarily on Charles Chaplin. For those who don’t know who this man was, he:

  • was possibly the biggest star cinema’s silent film era
  • was born and raised in England
  • directed, produced, starred in, and composed his larger feature length films
  • was riddled with controversy in his personal life
  • was exiled from the United States in 1953 (J. Edgar Hoover thought he was a Commie)
  • only returned to the US for 10 days in 1973 to accept an Oscar
  • passed away on Christmas Day in 1977

I remember my first experience with any of Chaplin’s works was during an Intro to Film class I took one summer at BYU in 2005. We watched his 1931 masterpiece City Lights. I was floored. I didn’t know silent films could be so genuinely funny, yet compelling at the same time. I had no idea Charlie Chaplin was such a genius, and one I would consider to be the father of Comedic film. Not only was he an amazing comedian, he was also a truly gifted storyteller.

Here are some of my favorites from his very extensive filmography:

  • The Kid is Chaplin’s first feature length movie. The Little Tramp (the character Chaplin is famous for) finds an orphan baby and raises it as his own. Years later, Social services try to take the boy away from his adoptive father, as seen here:

  • The Gold Rush is the film that features this FAMOUS scene:

  • City Lights is my favorite. The ending is very sweet. Here’s the funny boxing sequence from that film:

  • The Great Dictator was the film Chaplin made ridiculing Adolf Hitler and the Nazi movement. Chaplin said that had he known the full extent of the Nazi atrocities, he would not have made this film (because of how light he makes of something that he did not know was SO serious). It’s a very funny film with a truly powerful speech at the end.

Little know that Chaplin actually wrote the music for “Smile” a song used in his film Modern Times. It was covered during an episode of Glee last season:

He was truly a fascinating subject to study and learn about this semester. Robert Downey, Jr., gave an Oscar-nominated portrayal of Charlie in the 1992 biopic Chaplin. Here’s the trailer for that movie:

iHeart… V8 Fusion

…V8 Fusion Mixed Acai Mixed Berry (Light) to be exact.

Easily, I clear out half a bottle a day. At $3 a bottle, Natalia has decided to cut me off at 2 bottles a week. I can’t seem to explain why I love it so much, but it just seems to “hit the spot.” I find myself craving its cold, sweet goodness at random times throughout the day, which means I’ve always gotta be stocked! With a full serving of fruits AND vegetables in every 8 oz. glass, and half the calories and sugar of the non-light, I just can’t get enough.

Would you think I was silly if I admitted to enjoying a wine glass of V8 Fusion after a long day?

Oh man, I could go for some right about now…

I ♥ Sue Sylvester

If you don’t know who the great Sue Sylvester, is, she is coach of the cheer leading squad known as “The Cheerios” at fictional William-McKinley High School. She is played by the hilariously dry Jane Lynch. In honor of tonight’s Fall Finale… I present to you, Ms. Sue Sylvester.

suesylvester

Dear Journal,

Feeling listless again today. It began at dawn, when I tried to make a smoothie out of beef bones, breaking my juicer. And then at Cheerios practice, disaster…

It was unmistakable. It was like spotting the first spark on the Hindenburg. A quiver! That quiver will lose us Nationals. And without a championship, I’ll lose my endorsements. And without those endorsements, I won’t be able to buy my hovercraft.

Glee Club. Every time I try to destroy that clutch of scab-eating mouth breathers, it only comes back stronger like some sexually ambiguous horror movie villain.

Here I am, about to turn 30, and I’ve sacrificed everything, only to be Shanghaied by the bi-curious machinations of a cabal of doughy misshapen teens.

Am I missing something, Journal? Is it me? Of course it’s not me. It’s Will Schuester. What is it about him, Journal? Is it the arrogant smirk? Is it the store-bought home perm?

You know, Journal, I noticed something yesterday…Of course, it’s coming clear to me now. If I can’t destroy the club, I’ll have to destroy the man!!!

I ♥ “The Soup”

This is one hilarious show I love to turn on with Natalia and Carolina and just laugh our heads off. For those of you who don’t know, “The Soup” is a show highlighting the hilariously delicious clips from the past week in television.

The great thing about the show is that the clips don’t necessarily have to be fantastic, but it’s Joel McHale‘s commentary that really keeps it together. Take for example this clip… It’s not really funny in and of itself, but it has become a great inside joke with us Merinos:

This half-hour gem of a show airs new episodes every Friday night at 11pm.

I ♥ Sun Chips

Garden Salsa Sun Chips are amazing. We buy them 2 bags at a time, and I probably go through 3 bags a week. Unfortunately though, the time will come that I will grow tired of them, and go back to the other chips that I love.
