We love to have visitors stay with us in our home. These are the posts that showcase those visitors who come through Las Vegas and step in to say hello.

My brother and his family came to see us this weekend.

His youngest is only 4 months older than Gracie. I hope they grow up to be the best of friends.

Carolina and Sherry!
DAY 1
Carolina arrives with much fanfare (lets just say that there were formal dresses, wigs, wedding bouquets and sunglasses involved… but I won’t show you the incriminating video so as to not damage relationships). At this point, Luis’ parents were still here and we went out for a family dinner at Claim Jumper, and finally had to say goodbye to Luis’ parents.
DAY 2
We tried to make it to church, but weren’t able to wake up on time. Spent the evening and had dinner with our friends, Suzy and Mike.
DAY 3
This is when the eating-fest began! And for the grand kick-off, we decided to take Carolina to Lucille’s BBQ (seriously, you’ve GOT to try their chicken). This is what I was dealing with during dinner:

We had this one who wouldn’t stop Tweeting

This one just had to keep up to date on Facebook

This one was content to just sleep through the whole thing

And this was the look I got when I complained about it.
DAY 4
Pretty much everyday started with some quality time and photo shoot with Tia Carolina.

This particular evening became Graciela’s first Girl’s Night Out. The plan was to do dinner at Elephant Bar and dessert elsewhere, but we ended up making the mistake of ordering too much at E.B. and being unable to even think about getting dessert.

DAY 5
More photos courtesy of Tia Carolina:

With Day 5 came the arrival of our friend, Sherry. After picking her up from the airport and hanging out at our house for a little while, we hit up JB’s for pizza (well, we hit up JB’s after driving around aimlessly trying to decide where to eat that would be open past 10 p.m.). Normally we really enjoy JB’s but this night was kind of a flop. Good thing we were amongst great company.

DAY 6
Day 6 was a double header. We started off the day trying out the Cracked Egg. Both Carolina and Sherry had heard great things about this place. But in my humble opinion it was just mediocre. Nothing to write home about, but hey at least we tried it and now we know.

Later that evening we took Sherry to Lucille’s. Now we normally would not go to the same place twice in one week, but Carolina looooved her first experience there and practically begged us to go back.

Since we were already at The District, we decided to make a stop at the Green Valley Ranch casino after dinner. They have these cool beds out by the pool where you can just lounge.

DAY 7
Not to be outdone by Day 6′s double header, Day 7 became a triple header. First, we went to Grimaldi’s for New York style pizza at lunchtime. I was feeling a little claustrophobic with the tables practically stacked on top of each other. But Sherry assured me that this was how a lot of places in New York are set up, given the scarcity of land.

For dinner, we took the girls to Pin Kaow (our favorite little Thai place). If you ever go there, order their pineapple fried rice. It is not only delish, but is served in half a pineapple!

And for dessert, good ol’ chili’s. Luis was in the mood for the molten chocolate cake. I’ve been smitten with the caramel apple cobbler. I’m normally pretty good about sharing, but not with this baby. I warned everyone that I was absolutely in LOVE with this dessert and would not be sharing, so if they wanted any, they would have to order their own.

And thus concluded what I have dubbed Eating Fest 2011. We loved having Carolina and Sherry with us, and were sad to have to drop them both off at the airport the next morning.

As you already know, my wonderful mother-in-law came to visit us for Graciela’s first week and a half of life. What I failed to mention is that my father-in-law also came to visit us during the tail end of my mother-in-law’s stay. He was only here for a couple of days, but we were sure glad he was able to come and meet our little Graciela.
Both of my in-laws work for the public school system and had to be back to work right after Graciela was born. I’m so glad Graciela wasn’t born any later than she was, otherwise we wouldn’t have had the opportunity for either of them to visit us while she was so little.

Those of you who know Luis in real life know that he is an extremely loyal friend. Once you’ve made your way into his “friend” list, it is nearly impossible to be written off. Which means that he has quite a few friends from pretty much every stage of his life. A few months ago, Luis’s friend Chris, was in town. Luis and Chris have been friends since high school and still lives in Texas. We try to meet up with him every time we are in Texas. But this time around, he was in our neighborhood so we took him to Claim Jumper for lunch. I always have a great time listening to these guys reminisce about their high school days (especially since it gives me ammunition for things to tease Luis about later on).

Our good friend, Brent, came to visit us a few weekends ago. He got in late Friday night, and these two crazy schoolmates (this is what they call each other, though they were also roommates in college for a couple of years) decided to go ahead and go out for a midnight breakfast (I opted to stay home getting a good night’s sleep). The following evening, the 3 of us went out. Much as we used to during our college days. We first hit up Lucille’s BBQ.

We tried their BBQ chicken quesadillas appetizer. Which, as you can see from Brent’s expression, we all gave 2 thumbs up.

Brent had some gigantic platter of various meats.

Luis had a sandwich, and was none too pleased to pose for the picture.

Just as every other visit to Lucille’s, I just HAD to have their chicken, which is to die for.

After dinner, it was off to the Red Rock Casino for some good, old fashioned bingo. We won nothing.

And no night would be complete without a trip down the strip, with the two schoolmates heckling the people on the streets. Once upon a time, I found this little game of theirs embarrassing. Now I’m used to it so I allow them to indulge since they don’t get to see each other very often.

The last time I took a blogging hiatus was last fall/early winter. I was in the early stages of pregnancy, and sicker than I’ve ever been in my whole entire life (yes, I’m a bit dramatic… get over it… oh yeah, and I’m a little cranky too). So why another hiatus? My parents and younger sister have been in town visiting us. As many of you know, my parents have lived in Hawaii for the last 11 years. Having an ocean separating us means that we don’t see each other as often as we would like. And as if that wasn’t a big enough distance, they’re now moving to Brazil for 3 years. Yes, 3 years. My dad is going to be presiding over one of the missions for our church. So Luis and I have pretty much completely neglected our blog as we have tried to spend as much time as we could with them prior to their departure. We are all really excited for this new adventure in their lives (and they are excited to be returning to our “homeland” after living in the United States for almost 21 years).

I came home from work yesterday to find these two hard at play:

Our good friend, Billy (Luis has known for 6 years and I’ve known for him for 4 years), came into town for a business conference and decided to stay an extra night so he could come see us. Once their video-gaming was done, we headed to Claim Jumper for dinner and then it was off to a rousing game of BINGO!

For those of you who think bingo is for old people, you’re right. We were surrounded by them. The best was the lady sitting at the end of our table who was a playing on a video monitor and was playing 84 cards at a time. I’m pretty sure she thought we were crazy for thinking we might actually have a chance at winning (ha! she didn’t win anything either). But she was really nice to us and would root for us to get the numbers we wanted/needed.
Luis: Personally, I think she had a little crush on Billy. She kept giving him the flirty eye.

Here is what we, as amateurs, accomplished in an hour and 15 minutes:

Luis: Some might consider Bingo gambling… we don’t. If you go in knowing that you’re spending your money just to have a fun time, and an hour and a half worth of entertainment, the 6 bucks is totally worth it!
