A few weeks ago, I came across this Web Series that I had originally found to be mildly clever after watching only an episode or 2. It was pretty good, but nothing super special, at the time. Since then, I’ve watched an episode or so a week, and on Sunday, after being 6 episodes in, and getting a better feel for the characters… I decided to start over, and watch it from the beginning (again)— I couldn’t stop!! Yesterday afternoon I finished Season 1 and I absolutely loved it!!

The series is called Dorm Life and is about various college residents living in 5-South hall of a fictional University. The show is very The Office-esque (almost completely similar in style, tone, story-telling, and characterization) yet has lots of youthful energy that The Office lacks.

The fictional show is made in the form of a documentary that purports to record the lives of actual college freshmen. It takes place almost entirely within their dorm floor, 5 South. Each character has a webcam for the purpose of individual reflection or addresses to the audience.

Here is what the series has going for it:

• Production values are really high (for a web series), so it looks very professional
• The acting is surprisingly excellent
• The season-long story arcs have substance
• The characters are fleshed out and are more than just 1-dimensional drones
• It is VERY funny, especially when you learn to appreciate the characters
• The camaraderie between these floormates reminds me of the friendship of our Mikewire group over at Branbury, so I can relate

There are 20 episodes in Season 1 (about 5 minutes each), and more to come when they roll-out Season 2. If you like The Office, I highly recommend Dorm Life.
