flying in an airplane

Graciela’s first flight was a success. She guzzled down her bottle upon takeoff and then slept most of the rest of the way to Texas.

When she finally awoke, she enjoyed looking out the window to see the sights.

And gawking at the interesting sights on board.

Our way back to Las Vegas was pretty much the same. Looking out the window mesmerized by the flashing lights while we waited to take off:

I tried to give her a bottle when we took off, but she was so tired that she went right to sleep.

The flight attendant and I had to get creative to save her formula (once the bottle is opened you only have 1 hour to finish it or refrigerate otherwise it supposedly goes bad). So we used a motion sickness bag and ice to keep the bottle nice and cool.

Graciela woke up about 10 minutes before we landed, just in time to stare at all of the crazy people on the flight.

Blogiversary Weekend: Our Favorite Posts

A whole slew of stuff has happened to us in the 12 months since our last Blogiversary. Just over a week after the blogiversary date last year, we discovered that we were pregnant, and it’s been one heck of a roller coaster since then!

As part of our blogiversary celebration we wanted to share with you some of our favorite posts of the last 12 months.

Luis’ pick: LIVE: Baby Gender Reveal

  • Written by: the Mertinsos
  • Dated: March 12, 2011

Luis: Announcing the gender of our baby LIVE over the web was definitely a risky move. We could have just been talking to ourselves. Fortunately, we had about 15 people (not a whole lot, but still) tune in, making it an epically awesome undertaking. Hopefully we can do something like this again in the future!

Natalia’s pick: Hardwired

  • Written by: Natalia

Luis: Natalia, can you please give me a comment for your favorite post, so I can publish this sucker and move on with our lives?

Natalia: Lulu, I have no desire to commentary whatsoever. I’m so like, NOT into it.. it makes me want to throw up.

Luis: Okay! Jeez.

Honorable Mention:

We both went through all the posts of the past 12 months, together, and had ourselves some really good laughs. So we bring to you, our list of honorable mentions:

Blogiversary Weekend: Year in Stats

Last year, I shared a little bit about our stats, so I thought I’d do the same this year:

I must admit, knowing that all of our numbers have improved makes me giddy like school girl before prom. (Okay, that was a stretch.)

How are we doing internationally this year? Well, see for yourself…

Out of all these countries, I’m only aware of people we know living in the US (of course), Brazil, and Honduras… Hmm.

Anywho, stay tuned for some more blogiversary-filled posts as blogiversary week(end) continues!

Happy blogiversary?

I had just arrived home late from a church meeting. I was so tired and hungry, that i picked up Taco Bell just before coming home.

As I sit there eating my chalupa, and Natalia munches on her Lucky Charms… I remembered something.

Luis: Today is the 17th right?

Natalia: Yah.

Luis: Do you remember what today is?

Natalia: The 17th?

Luis: HAPPY BLOGIVERSARY!

Natalia: Oh, that. Well, it’s not like we consistently blog anymore.

Luis: No we don’t. But we need to get it going again.

Natalia: I know. Maybe for our blogiversary we can do one of our back-and-forth banter posts… the ones we’re famous for.

My mind had quickly jumped to something completely different. Without missing a beat, I responded:

Luis: Can I tell you how disappointed I was that there were no fresh baked cookies when I got home?

A typical conversation in the Mertinso household.

HAPPY BLOGIVERSARY to all our loyal readers! Expect a special blogiversary post tomorrow (chock full of fun numbers and stuff, like last year).

Eva or Jennifer?

Natalia and I were skulking around Walmart not too long ago (yes, skulking), and came across packaging for *THIS* step stool.

Immediately, Natalia thought this woman looked just like Eva Longoria… I thought “NO WAY!” She looks like Jennifer Garner. (Keeping in mind, we were both VERY clear on the fact that she is indeed neither of them, simply that they look similar.)

Now, avid readers, we bring this to you to settle for us. Who does this woman look more like? Eva Longoria? or Jennifer Garner?

Natalia: For the record, I think Luis is attempting to manipulate the voting by finding a picture of Jennifer Garner in almost the same exact pose, and bang swoop as the model.

Luis: If you wanted to sway the readers, then you should have written your OWN dang blog post.

What’s wrong with this picture?

I went to Target the other day, only to find there was something not quite right… can you figure it out?

pinned

Are you on Pinterest? What has made you get hooked? I guess I don’t really get the whole Pinterest popularity thing. I kind of have been doing my own version of “Pinterest” with folders saved on my computer. Anytime I see something I like, I save it. Then the folders are all organized by category and sub-category. And here is another thing I don’t get. What is the point of “following” someone. Doesn’t the same thing end up getting pinned over and over and over again, thus clogging up one’s feed? (Is it even called a feed?)

What happens if I don’t want people to know what kinds of things I’m saving? For example, I was looking at kids’ Halloween costumes the other day. Ideally, I should be able to just pin whatever I want to go back to look at later. But I was afraid that by pinning, everyone would know what I was leaning towards and end up copying my kid’s costume.

As I was driving with Luis tonight, he told me the reason so many people have begun following me is that they are all my Facebook friends. He also said that I automatically begun following all of my Facebook friends as soon as I joined (and for that, I truly apologize). What if I don’t want all of my Facebook friends to follow me? What if I feel like it is an invasion of my personal tastes? What do I do if I want to stop following someone? Then what?

I know, I know, so many questions. Like I said, I just don’t really get it.
