The old south
July 7, 2011
Natalia, being the awesome wife that she is, insisted I visit my brother, his family, and my parents (who would be in town) in South Carolina over the weekend of the 4th! It was a great weekend!
I won’t bombard you with too many photos (seeing as I don’t have very many to choose from), but I’ll post some. My weekend consisted mostly of hanging out with my 2 1/2 year old nephew, Abel, who I adore! He calls me “Tio Wees” and I love it!
We went to the beach on Saturday. The water was perfect. Not too much a fan of sand though… yeck!
My adorable niece Brisa! Look at those chubbbby cheeks!
On Monday, we did some shopping at the local Outlet mall. All of us split up to do separate shopping, but Abel came with me, and it was just me and him for about an hour or so.
“I wan watch Cars Twoooooooooooooooo” he’d say, while holding up 1 finger. I would try to show him how to properly show “2″ with his fingers, and he’d look at his and take a few seconds figuring out how to copy it… then would say again “Cars Twoooooooooooo”
LOVE THAT KID!
South Carolina is definitely a different place. I saw THESE all over the place (on cars mostly):

Kidd Kraddick’s sidekick, Kellie Rasberry, is from South Carolina, and they always play this soundbyte that goes: “We’re from South Carolina, we do it in a different way… we’re a southern people!” And it’s definitely TRUE.
just because it is expensive…

Doesn’t mean it is all that good.

The other day my boss went to a lunch at the Golden Nugget and brought us each a cupcake (I have a really great boss that randomly does nice things like that). Although this cupcake looked phenomenal, it was somewhat lacking in taste. Imagine a boxed devil cake mix and a dark chocolate frosting. That was what it tasted like.
oranges

Some farmer (at least that is what he claimed to be) walked into our office today selling cases of oranges. Guess who is going to be eating oranges for the next month?
pool time
June 11, 2011

There is nothing like 90 degree weather, a good book, and relatively calm pool waters on a Saturday afternoon.
cupcakes

YUM!

Clockwise: Red Velvet, Strawberry macaroon, Oreo, Lemon with Strawberry frosting, and Chocolate Chip Cookie.
(And yes, my stomach keeps getting bigger and bigger)
Edit: I forgot to mention that 2 of the cupcakes were for Luis. I didn’t eat 4 cupcakes and a macaroon. I know I’m pregnant, but I’m not crazy!
my kind of rodeo
June 1, 2011

As you may or may not know, I’m not a big fan of rodeos. Last week the scouts had a rodeo. But it was a “bike rodeo.” Never heard of a bike rodeo? Me neither. It was basically a huge obstacle course in the church parking lot. The boys (and any of their siblings) got to bring their bikes, decorate them with streamers, and then go through the obstacle course. Luis and I ended up helping out with the zigzag part of the course. It was interesting to see which of the boys were patient enough to actually do the zigzagging and which just pretended to do it so they could move on to the next thing.

birchbox

It is Birchbox time again! For those who may not be familiar with Birchbox, it is a monthly subscription service. You pay $10, and they send you samples of deluxe beauty products. Before we get to this month’s Birchbox, I want show you what I liked/disliked from last month’s box:
This month’s Birchbox is all about elegant style in honor of Mother’s Day. The packaging is back to the bright pink Birchbox is known for.

As always, everything comes packaged neatly inside the box:

And on to the products:

This was the Birchbox “treat” this month. Pretty lame.

I can’t really describe the scent of this soap. But soap is soap so it is just going to go in the guest bathroom. The full size is 6.8 FL oz and retails for $12.50. They sent a 1.1 oz sample, which is probably more than enough for my guests :)

I haven’t decided if I love this smell or if it reminds me of grandmas. I need to try it out to see how it smells on me. The full size is 50 ML and retails for $80. I received a 1.5 ML sample so not a whole lot, but I don’t know that I will end up using much of it anyway.

I’m excited to try this lotion. I’ve heard great things about Ahava. The full size is 3.4 oz and retails for $20. I received a 0.68 oz sample so about $4 worth of the product.

This is the one product I was truly excited about seeing. I had watched some Birchbox YouTube videos, and it seemed everyone got one of these shadows in their boxes this month. The only thing I was a little concerned about (before getting my box) was what color I was going to end up with. From the videos I watched, it looked like everyone got a different color. Some were fine, others a little scary (someone got a bright orange color). So I was hoping for a normal color in mine that I would actually end up using. The color they sent me is called “prize” and it looks like it is right up my alley. They sent a full size shadow, which retails for $18.
