A magical gift

As the final part of my treasure hunt gift on our anniversary last week, Natalia presented me with THIS:

Lego Harry Potter Years 1-4!! She knew I was dying to play this game! I even took it with us to California to play it with DK. Here’s a trailer for the game:

The thing about video games, is I find it hard to get around to playing them, especially if there are other things to do, so it’s rare that I actually sit down to play. But yesterday, the opportunity presented itself, so I took it! Natalia had just called to tell me that she was out of court and might be home earlier today.

It was about 3pm when I sat down to start playing. About an hour had passed and I had thought to myself, “I should probably finish playing and go do something else. I will after I finish this level.” This happened for another level or so.

I then hear the garage door open, and Natalia walk in the door.

“You’re home early!” I say to her, as I’m learning how to fly on a broomstick.

“Early!?” she replies, “It’s almost 7!”

My jaw drops! How is that I had been playing for nearly FOUR HOURS! Now, when it comes to video games these days, I find I get bored kind of quickly, usually about 30-60 minutes of playing a day is MORE than enough. So, I was baffled to find that I had been playing for almost 4 hours!! Thank you for an awesome Anniversary present, NaNa!!

DISCLAIMER: I am not a video game junkie, despite my pudgy, nerdy appearance. I am actually quite productive around the house during the day.

Land line (part 2)

If you recall, Natalia made a post about the desire to get a land line, back in June, when she wasn’t able to reach me. Being there myself, I can understand how frustrating and even scary it can be when you can’t get a hold of your spouse, especially when there are so many channels by which to do so (phone, text, IM, email, Facebook, etc)

Which brings us to today. I was downstairs enjoying breakfast and watching a documentary on Netflix, when I realize that I’ve been watching for over an hour. (I usually just watch stuff in like 15-20 minute chunks while eating or folding laundry or doing dishes or any other household chore you can imagine).

Returning to my computer upstairs, I notice that Natalia has written on my wall. “Strange,” I think to myself… what could it be?

*Gulp!* “She’s been trying to get a hold of me! I grab my phone to find (missed calls in red):

That’s right, 12 missed phone calls AND a Voicemail! “I am in so much trouble!” It turns out that Natalia needed me to convert a PDF into editable text for her, for a client meeting she had this morning. I quickly did it, sent it back to her, and called her. No answer, which means she’s probably meeting with the client. I texted her an “I’m sorries,” knowing that she was probably just worried that I had fallen in the shower or something.

Here was her reply (I’m green, Natalia’s gray):

love

I love watching people. When I watch people I’ve never met (and will probably never meet), I make up stories in my mind about what they are going through. For example, this couple:

They met online. He was about to be deployed and she was willing to wait for him to return to pick up their relationship. He finally returned from active duty and came straight to her. Words could not describe how happy she felt that her soul mate returned home safely. He could not believe she actually waited for him all this time. Life really is just too good to be true.

Luis: That’s all well and good, NaNa, but HE was at the airport waiting for HER to arrive. See, they were highschool sweethearts from here in Las Vegas. But she was accepted to Columbia University and he didn’t want to keep her back. He joined the army, and they continued their relationship long distance, travelling back and forth for the next 4 years. This time, though, he had a ring with him as he waited for his sweetheart (who was like a foot taller than him) to arrive. THAT’s what happened.

Cougar alert!

It’s nice to see that there are cougars alive and well in Utah County… and I’m not talking about BYU football.

Earlier this week I was sitting at school doing my homework when I see this woman in her 40s with stylish hair, flashy clothes, and nice jewelry sit two tables down from me. About ten minutes later this guy who’s no older than 22 walks up and sits across from her. Is this her son? A son’s friend? A study partner? It then becomes quickly obvious that they ARE study partners (boring!). So, I resume listening to music and doing my homework.

cougar

A little bit later I notice they aren’t really doing much studying, but lots of talking. I remove my headphones, and being the nosy person I am, tune in to what is being said. The woman is going on and on about her weekend and how her and some girlfriends went to some bar. I poked my ear in too late to really get a feel of what was going on in her story but she soon asked the younger guy how his weekend was and if he went on any dates. She was definitely trying to probe into his personal/romantic life, and he was definitely trying to dodge her.

The guy eventually began telling her a story about something that happened to him over the weekend, but his back was to me, so I couldn’t understand what he was saying. What I could understand, though, is that this woman was a certifiable COUGAR!

Natalia: Whats with the colored pipes running the length of the ceiling? If I didn’t know any better, I’d think you were hanging out at a preschool somewhere.

Luis: Some people would say UVU IS a preschool.
