Groceries
carts
February 17, 2012
The other day Luis came up with a “brilliant” idea that we needed a cart to lug our groceries from the car to the kitchen. Never mind that it only takes 10 steps (tops) to get from the trunk of the car to the kitchen door. He still felt like there could be a way to minimize the number of trips back and forth. And that is when he came up with this brilliant idea:

Graciela’s stroller frame + lots of groceries = instant grocery cart

There is nothing like putting your child in her exersaucer (to get some much-needed baby exercise… after all, she did spend the majority of her weekend being held and coddled by her adoring grandparents), only to realize that the flashing lights and sounds which catch her attention aren’t working. That is what you get when you buy a secondhand exersaucer at a consignment. The rest of my evening goes something like this:
- - Get the baby all loaded up in her car seat
- - Get her into the car
- - Realize baby doesn’t have a bow on her head and run back into the house to grab one
- - Don’t find one on the coffee table and decide it is best to just go without the bow (gasp!)
- - Drive all the way to the grocery store
- - Politely thank the door greeter for spending a few too many minutes telling me my child is beautiful then proceeding to give me her child’s life story
- - Get batteries for the exersaucer
- - Realize I might as well get lettuce while I’m at the store
- - Remember that it would be nice to also have some hairspray
- - Grab a pack of ponytail holders while I’m in the haircare aisle, as it seems that I can never find mine despite the fact that it feels like I buy a new pack every other day
- - Pay for items, go return my cart and see that someone has forgotten a case of water in a shopping cart
- - Stop to take a picture for blogging purposes

- - Consider taking the case of water (it was paid for after all), but decide to leave it where it is bc that is the most honest thing to do, and I can’t possibly hold a case of water, a bag of random items I just purchased, my purse, and a car seat
- - Get home and replace the batteries in said exersaucer
- - Go to put away the batteries only to discover that we had an extra pack of the same exact batteries… ugh.
- - Decide that I deserve cinnamon rolls for my troubles. Yum.
- - Go blog about the night’s events.

The mouse goes grocery shopping!
With Luis out of town this past weekend, my friend Suzy was very kind to include me in their family activities. Saturday’s activities featured grocery shopping… and lots of it. We started the afternoon with some delicious Chinese Food. Then we were off to one of the many Latino markets. It took a little while to get there, but I was so impressed. The place was really nice. Their produce looked beautiful and it was really, really cheap. Their butcher department was equally impressive. And the best part? They had these viewing windows in some of the other departments so you could watch them prepare things like fresh tortillas (which you could buy nice and hot)

They also had a lady giving samples of delicious fresh tacos. They had these mini warm tortillas, you could either choose chicken or pork for your tacos, and then they had all of their different sauces out so you could try whichever sauce you wanted on your taco. Oh it was sooooo good!
Then when you walked by their bakery, you just smelled this delicious, sweet bread baking. The bakery also had a display window where you could watch these lovely ladies decorate HUGE beautiful cakes!

After standing there watching them make these cakes, I just had to get a slice. When we walked in, there was a lady giving samples of the cakes. You could choose from 4 different kinds. Unfortunately, by the time I went back to get a sample, she wasn’t there anymore. So I just bought a slice of tres leches, which was delicious. I also bought a slice of their flan, which all the Bindrups seemed to really enjoy (but I’m not a big fan of flan).
I could go on and on about this grocery store. But I won’t bore you with every minute detail. We also hit up Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club later in the evening, but compared to the Latino market, those were super lame.

This past weekend, Kristi, one of my visiting teachers, sent me a message on Facebook asking if I liked mangoes. Me? Mangoes? OF COURSE! So I was lucky enough to come home from stake conference yesterday with these beauties:

Despite the fact that it has only been 1 full day since I received these, there is sadly only 1 remaining. I’ve been eating them 2 at a time. Don’t judge me, I’m pregnant and it is good for digestion.
20 items or less
October 26, 2009
I find it sooooo annoying when people get in the express line at the grocery store but have more than 20 items. The other day, I ran to the store really quick during my lunch hour to grab something and got stuck behind some woman who apparently thought that 20 items meant 20 big items with several smaller items thrown in the mix. And to make matters worse, she then had the never to pull out an advertisement for another store to have the checker match those prices. Hello??? Could she not see that I only had three things in my hand and was obviously in a hurry? I really wish that people like that woman would be force to pay some kind of fine for intentional misuse of the express line.
i don’t get it
