the home depot
May 17, 2012
We don’t often go to home improvement stores, but we needed a new toilet seat in our bathroom so we hit up the Home Depot.

On the ride over to the store Luis asked me if I knew what size we needed to get. I didn’t know how many different toilet seat sizes existed nor did I take any measurements before we left the house. So I told Luis that we would just have to sit on them and see if they felt the same as the ones we have at home.

Does anyone know why commercial toilet seats are U-shaped instead of oval?

Anyway, we selected our toilet seat (not the commercial U-shaped one, in case anyone was wondering), and were headed to the check-out when I saw the backyard furniture displays. So I did what any normal person would do. I made myself comfy and pretended like I was having a grant time next to the pool in my imaginary backyard entertaining my guests.

Now I just need to buy a house with a pool so I can buy a set like this and then actually invite people to enjoy it with us. You would totally come over if we had a great set-up like that, right? Ok, I’ll get right on it!
closets
April 12, 2012

Last weekend I had big plans to go through all 3 of the walk-in closets in our house. I started with Graciela’s because it would be the most fun to do. I love her little clothes, but it is definitely a whole process to keep up with her wardrobe. First I had to go through everything currently in rotation, and fold and put away all of the things that are too small. Then it was hanging all of her clean laundry and finding room to hang some of the bigger summer clothes that she is starting to fit into. Needless to say, I never got to the other 2 closets, though Felipe’s closet desperately needs to be organized. Poor guy, we never cleaned out the closet when he moved in, so about 95% of the things in his closet is our junk. Ugh, I feel like we are already outgrowing this place. How often do you go through your closets?
maybe i’m just too cheap

About a month ago, when we went to San Diego, we stayed at a Double Tree. I really liked the room’s decor:

And I fell in love with their cute little throw pillow.

I considered just taking it from the room and letting them bill my credit card. But since I didn’t know how much they would end up charging me, I didn’t take it. After getting home, I decided to look up the price of the cute little pillow. Guess what? I’m really glad I didn’t take it. $45. For a 14″ x 18″ throw pillow! And that, my friends, is why I’m nowhere near being finished decorating my house.
Putting Away Christmas
January 17, 2011
Christmas may have been 3 weeks ago, but we finally got around to taking down our Christmas tree. (Which is better than our mid-March take-down last year)
Check it out:

December 13, 2010
Along with my self-imposed blog break over the last two weeks, I’ve pretty much taken a break from everything else in life (except work, of course). I have made dinner a total of 0 times. Luis has made dinner a total of every night we’ve had a real dinner. Thanks to his ever-expanding cooking skills:
- we’ve had a sweet potato bar,
- Cafe Rio sweet pork, and
- Philly cheese steaks.
The rest of the nights have gone something like this:

Luis: For all those who think I just bum around… I actually DO pull my weight around here!
One of these days, I’ll feel up to the task of being a good wife again. But until then, there is always take-out :)
tis the season
December 4, 2010
This year we wasted no time bringing our tree (which we never actually disassembled last year) downstairs for the Christmas season.
A lot of times when Luis says “we need to [insert any chore that needs to get done],” what he actually means is, “this really needs to get done so could you go do it because I really don’t want to,” (If you recall). So logically that is exactly what I thought would happen with putting up the Christmas tree this year. I was very surprised that he didn’t just pose for the picture, but actually put up many of the ornaments :)
Luis: For the record… I brought the tree down. I am the one who insisted we get it done, and would have done it myself had Natalia not wanted to help. I am the one who pulled the Christmas box out and got it all ready for us to put up. :)
Although I’m not the big Simpsons‘ fan in our home, I insisted we put on a Christmas episode of the Simpson’s because that is what we watched when we put up our Christmas tree our first year together.
And here is the finished product:
Our “tree skirt” is actually a wrap-around skirt my dad brought me from Dubai. It is a beautiful burgundy and gold fabric, and we’ve used it as our Christmas tree skirt every year.
tile coasters
August 23, 2010
Now that we finally bought a coffee table, I had the perfect excuse to purchase these white tiles at Lowe’s (I paid $1.04 for 8):

And transform them into coasters:

My original plan was to make monogram coasters. But when I read that the mod podge would smear designs from ink jet printers, I had to come up with a plan B. Lucky for me, I have an ultra creative husband full of good ideas. He suggested I use some of our extra wedding invitations, and I think they turned out nicely.
