Baby on Board
September 9, 2011
It appears that singing to Gracie helps her fall asleep. Instead of singing to her some trite, overused lullaby, I decided to sing to her songs that I have a personal connection with… songs from THIS album:

I bought this CD (which is a collection of music directly from episodes of the show) when I was 12 years old, during my 7th grade year at the height of my Simpsons obsession. I’ve listened to these songs well over 100 times and have a very special place in my heart.
In particular, I enjoy singing the BeSharps’ song, “Baby on Board,” to Gracie. Regardless of what you might think, she’s a fan of my performances!

Baby on board,
how I’ve adored
that sign on my car’s window pane.
A bounce in my step,
loaded with pep,
cause I’m driving in the carpool lane,
Call me a square,
Friend, I don’t care.
This little yellow sign can’t be ignored,
I’m tellin you it’s mighty nice,
Each trip’s a trip to paradise,
With my baby on board.
Here’s a video of some Baby on Board a capella action from YouTube:
Music from General Conference
April 5, 2011
Usually, after General Conference, I like to go back and give a 2nd listen to all of the music (in addition to the individual talks). That’s right, we do MORE than just make fun of people.
There was one musical number in particular that jumped out to me as I listened live, and again today as I re-listened.

At the beginning of the Sunday Afternoon session, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir sung “I’m Trying to Be Like Jesus,” a well-known Primary/Children’s song. Natalia likes to criticize me for thinking that Primary songs are too cheesy, but for some reason, when these same songs are sung by adults and/or MoTab… it brings the words/meaning to a whole different level.
Here’s a clip from the musical number:

Favorite Christmas song?
December 25, 2010
First off, Merry Christmas everyone. Natalia and I are rocking Christmas with my family in Texas. We’ve been having a blast with my siblings and li’l nephew Abel.
It’s been interesting this Holiday season, as I’ve consciously been trying to enjoy more Christmas music. I am finding myself more and more drawn to one song in particular: Do You Hear What I Hear? (in particular, this version)

I’m not quite sure what it is– maybe, it’s the simplicity of the song, that it’s not “over done.” I dunno. Anyway, just wanted to share that. What has been your favorite?

December 15, 2010

For those of you who may not know, I’m a HUGE Mariah Carey fan. I have been since about 1996. If you turned on my car at this very moment, you would hear her Christmas CD playing. So when I heard that she was putting on a Christmas TV special, I was pretty bummed that I wouldn’t be able to watch it (despite our love for all things television-related, we have no TV in our house… well, we have a television set, we just can’t watch anything other than Netflix or DVD’s on it).
Imagine my sheer joy when I was able to find the entire special streaming online. Needless to say, I spent my evening all cozy in my bed with not one, but two blankets keeping me nice and warm as I watched Ms. Carey do her thang.

MyTop: 5 Most Annoying Christmas Songs
December 9, 2010
Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE Christmas music (the good kind)! While I cruise around running my errands, I listen to that radio station that plays nothing but hokey Christmas songs non-stop, all the day long. When I’m at home, I tune into my Christmas station on Pandora and let the spirit of the season seep right in.

Even though I love Christmas music, there are a handful of songs I absolutely ABHOR, and I’m sure some of you will agree with me…
This is my Top5: Most Annoying Christmas songs:
![]()
#5 – “Grandma Got Runover by a Reindeer”
Annoying, annoying, annoying. Luckily, it’s not popular enough to be further down on this list.
![]()
#4 – “Last Christmas”
I’ve heard this song about 67.5 thousand times so far. There’s something about the lyrics that just get on my last nerve.
Last Christmas, I gave you my heart
The very next day, you gave it away…
GAG! … And as a bonus, here’s the uber-cheesy original version, written by George Michael (not Bluth, but the actual singer-songwriter). Major 80′s cheese warning!!
![]()
#3 – “Let It Snow”
The thing that annoys me about this song, is that it has nothing to do with Christmas. There are a good number of winter songs that have little or NOTHING to do with Christmas. By the way… what does “goodbye-ing” mean? … Making out? Just SAY it… jeez!!
![]()
#2 – “Baby, It’s Cold Outside”
Again… nothing to do with Christmas. This song should be exiled as does the #1 on my list.

#1 – “Santa Baby”
Let’s take a look at some of the modest requests of a self-proclaimed “awful good girl…”
- I wanna yacht and really that’s, Not a lot
- Santa cutie, there’s one thing I really do need, the deed To a platinum mine
- Santa baby, I’m filling my stocking with a duplex, and checks, Sign your ‘X’ on the line
- Come and trim my Christmas tree, With some decorations bought at Tiffany’s
- Santa baby, forgot to mention one little thing, a ring, I don’t mean a phone
She had the audacity to say that she’s “been an angel all year“. To her, I say… just because you wore a sexy angel costume on ONE day out of the year (Halloween) does not mean you’ve “been an angel all year.” Sorry.
This self-absorbed hussie preceded her OBNOXIOUS lists of I-Wants by saying:
Think of all the fun I’ve missed, Think of all the fellas that I haven’t kissed.
I guarantee (and you can quote me on this) that this gold-digging tramp has had more “fun” than Hugh Hefner’s last 13 girlfriends and has kissed more “fellas” than Liz Taylor, Britney Spears, and Kelly Kapowski COMBINED.
I hate, hate, hate, hate, HATE this song.
Confession #7
April 20, 2009
My name is Luis Merino, and I enjoy listening to TV Themes ranging from old Saturday Morning Cartoons to Mexican Telenovelas.
Why do I feel it necessary to reveal these personal things on such a public forum– who knows. I can’t explain my fascination with TV themes other than the sheer nostalgia factor. Within the midst of those simple and catchy tunes lies a wealth of memories and experiences indelibly etched in my mind forever. You know me. I’m a sucker for nostalgia.
On my iPod I have 145 thems in 5 seperate categories:
- Saturday Morning TV
- Classic TV
- 90s TV
- Current TV
- Spanish TV
Occasionally I well just throw them into shuffle and take a walk down memory lane. Here are some themes included in my collection:
Happy Days
Captain Planet
Growing Pains
Power Rangers Zeo
Veronica Mars
And of course, The Simpsons
for those about to rock
December 13, 2008
This week we attended a recital that a couple of our friends (DK) were singing in, and they both did an excellent job. So last night, as my ears were ringing from the deafening sounds of the Nightmare Before Xmas concert, I started thinking… what would it be like if these lead singers would take voice lessons? While I understand that a lot of music features at least one band member screaming into a microphone, it wouldn’t hurt if that screaming were fine tuned a little bit.
Having said that, I was really proud of our friends, Spencer and Brent. Spencer plays the guitar and Brent plays the bass for a band called The Market. They did a great job last night as they shared the stage with Hoobastank (a band I’ve actually heard of)!
