Fresh Prince of Downton Abbey

It seems as though Downton Abbey has been a bit of a craze amongst late-adopting Americans recently. Personally, I love the show. Imagine my surprise when College Humor (which is comprised of mostly geeky/techy MALE comedians, who normally wouldn’t be into these types of shows) produced the following parody video:

Do you watch Downton Abbey?

biggest loser

Not too long ago, I blogged about how ridiculous I thought it was for Anna Kournikova to be a trainer on the Biggest Loser (“BL”). I had never been a loyal BL watcher. I usually watched the beginning of the show and the end of the show. However, this time around, perhaps due to the gimmick of having Anna on the show, and me wanting to watch it and hate on her, I have gotten hooked. This past week, I started watching BL season 1, just for the sake of comparing the two. And I do have to say, they have come a long way (I definitely prefer the flashy/showy way the show has become). Sadly, as I watch those people killing themselves at the gym, it makes me want to reach for a gigantic slice of chocolate cake.

There must be something wrong with me.

what???

I’m not a huge biggest loser fan (that pun was completely intended). But I usually watch the season premiers and finales to see how people started and ended. So here I am, watching BL and who is announced as a trainer? Anna Kournikova??? Random. Sire she was a professional athlete who was known more for her beauty than for her talent on the tennis court, but how does that qualify her to get the obese to lose weight? I’m probably not going to finish watching the whole premier (it is a pretty long show, after all), so if you’ve got any thoughts, or wish to tell me how wrong I am, go right on ahead :)

Baby on Board

It appears that singing to Gracie helps her fall asleep. Instead of singing to her some trite, overused lullaby, I decided to sing to her songs that I have a personal connection with… songs from THIS album:

I bought this CD (which is a collection of music directly from episodes of the show) when I was 12 years old, during my 7th grade year at the height of my Simpsons obsession. I’ve listened to these songs well over 100 times and have a very special place in my heart.

In particular, I enjoy singing the BeSharps’ song, “Baby on Board,” to Gracie. Regardless of what you might think, she’s a fan of my performances!

 Baby on board,

how I’ve adored

that sign on my car’s window pane.

A bounce in my step,

loaded with pep,

cause I’m driving in the carpool lane,

Call me a square,

Friend, I don’t care.

This little yellow sign can’t be ignored,

I’m tellin you it’s mighty nice,

Each trip’s a trip to paradise,

With my baby on board.

Here’s a video of some Baby on Board a capella action from YouTube:

Like unexpected

Now that Natalia is back at work, middle-of-the-night feedings fall squarely on my lap. That being the case, I have a lot of time to watch whatever’s on Netflix these days.

Recently, I’ve been watching THIS show:

I had heard great things about it when it premiered almost 2 years ago and decided to give it a shot. I figured the high praise would have made the show fall victim to my “expectations are too high to meet” syndrome. So, I was surprised when I actually liked it… a lot.

The girl who plays the teenager Lux, and her man-child birth dad Baze are my favorite amongst the already-strong cast. Shiri Appleby who plays Cate? …. I can find to be a bit annoying sometimes, and I’m not sure if it’s because of her acting, her voice, or her character. Regardless, the writing is solid, and the acting is great.

The entire series (it was cancelled) is available on Netflix.

basketball wives

Have you ever heard of this show? I saw it on Netflix and decided to give it a try, after all, I love reality TV. You know that saying “misery loves company?” It is the perfect depiction of the first season of this show. It is a bunch of women who are upset about how their relationships ended and simply fuel each other’s fires. On one episode, one of the girls goes as far as encouraging the other to cheat on her husband! And to top it all off, out of the 7 women on the show, only 2 are still married to their basketball player husbands, and several were never married to begin with.

Yet despite the fact that it truly is an awful show, I found myself watching the entire season in a matter of a couple of days… mostly in the middle of the night when I get up to feed Graciela. I guess I’ll be adding this show to my “guilty pleasure” list of shows that I’m almost (but not quite) too embarrassed to admit I enjoy watching.

It’s not worth it!

…I yell, almost instinctively as  I drive by THIS while either picking up/dropping off/or visiting Natalia at work:

Some of you might recognize this place as featured on hit reality series PAWN STARS. Spencer and I visited this place once, and it was a COMPLETE and UTTER let down. The upside, is that there was no wait when we went.

The same can’t be said for the unfortunate souls above who don’t know what kind of disappointment they’re headed toward. To make it worse, it’s bubbling hot outside. I’m surprised these people standing in line haven’t melted yet.

So, I do my best and try to warn them:

“It’s not worth it!!!”
