Simpson Sez

Baby on Board

It appears that singing to Gracie helps her fall asleep. Instead of singing to her some trite, overused lullaby, I decided to sing to her songs that I have a personal connection with… songs from THIS album:

I bought this CD (which is a collection of music directly from episodes of the show) when I was 12 years old, during my 7th grade year at the height of my Simpsons obsession. I’ve listened to these songs well over 100 times and have a very special place in my heart.

In particular, I enjoy singing the BeSharps’ song, “Baby on Board,” to Gracie. Regardless of what you might think, she’s a fan of my performances!

 Baby on board,

how I’ve adored

that sign on my car’s window pane.

A bounce in my step,

loaded with pep,

cause I’m driving in the carpool lane,

Call me a square,

Friend, I don’t care.

This little yellow sign can’t be ignored,

I’m tellin you it’s mighty nice,

Each trip’s a trip to paradise,

With my baby on board.

Here’s a video of some Baby on Board a capella action from YouTube:

Dentophobia

….is the term used to describe the fear of dentists. I will be the first to admit that I am dentophobic. Which is why it was a surprise to me when Natalia came home from a Dentist appointment on Saturday, only to reveal that she had scheduled an appointment for me the following Tuesday (this morning). I wasn’t thrilled.

What I find fascinating is how many full grown adults experience dentophobia. Natalia had told me she had asked the staff when she went if they get a lot of screaming kids. They said not really, and that they mostly get anxiety-riddled adults. I went for my appointment this morning, surprisingly calm. The dentist praised my teeth claiming that they looked “really good” and I had ZERO cavities. (And it’s been well over 5 years since I’ve been to the dentist last).

This whole experience got me wondering … how many of you readers are afraid of the Dentist? If so, why? If not, why not?

Oh, and here’s a little clip from The Simpsons I saw recently about Dentists:

Trip down Memory Lane (Evergreen Terrace)

As you may or may not have noticed (from Natalia’s post about my lullaby song, or my last half-a-million Facebook status messages)…

…I’ve been on a Simpsons kick as of late. I just finished watching through Season 3, and recall my years as a youth (ages 10-14) where I set out to record every Simpsons episode. At the time, there were just about 150 or so, (there are currently 468+), and was 2 or 3 episodes short of my goal. I had 12 or 13 VHS tapes full of Simpsons episodes that I would watch over, and over, and over, and over. To say the least, I was obsessed.

I love annoying Natalia by playing episodes, and reciting to her the episode, line-by-line. :D

On to Season 4!!

lullaby and goodnight

Luis sometimes sings me lullabies when he wants me to go to sleep. All this time I’ve been thinking he was coming up with these funny little renditions to lullabies all on his own. But yesterday I discovered the culprit:

I should have known.

Simpson Sez: Worst Prayer Yet

In honor of the recent Thanksgiving festivities, here’s a clip from The Simpsons’ Thanksgiving (from almost 18 years ago). Enjoy!

Simpson Sez: Life’s Creamy Middles

I thought it would be fun to feature some Simpsons clips (from time to time), seeing as they are legally provided through Hulu, and this is my all-time favorite show.

Why not start with a clip that features the quote from which I got the “creamy middles” line. Enjoy!
