Family
doppelgänger

Three times a week I drop off my brother at physical therapy on my way to work. A couple of weeks ago we arrived to find that the doors were wide open. And to our astonishment, our mom was inside!

Now we always joke about whether or not our mom is going to be there to watch him :)
a little violent
April 24, 2012
I’ve never thought of myself as a violent person. However, Luis has since corrected me. You see, sometimes in the middle of the night, or the wee hours of the morning, Graciela ends up in our bed. And I guess my protective mother instincts have kicked in due to her sleeping in our bed. So now, anytime Luis tries to roll over in bed (whether Graciela is in it or not), I apparently push (or possibly punch) him out of the way. I have absolutely no recollection of doing this, but he claims that I do. Apparently I also sometimes scold him. Again, no recollection here. Oopsie.

happy birthday
April 22, 2012

Today is my wonderful father’s birthday. When I was a teenager and would get mad at him, he would always tell me, “Someday you’ll be living far away and you’ll tell people about how much you love and miss me.” And it is true! I love and miss you :)
happy easter
April 8, 2012
I’ve been obsessing about Brazilian Easter eggs for several months now. I had it stuck in my mind that we must have these eggs, no matter what it took. Fortunately, it did not take a lot because there was a Brazilian store right here in town that was selling them. To fill up the baskets for Luis and Felipe, I also bought some chokito (one of my favorite childhood chocolates from Brazil), the Easter staple Cadbury cream filled eggs, and Reese’s eggs. Then, to add a little healthiness to the baskets, I added some rice krispy treats (hello, those are made of cereal) and sugar-free gum (categorized as “healthy” because there is not sugar, duh!).

Graciela got the largest of the 3 baskets (because she is my favorite to shop for). She also got the chocolates (which are really for me to eat, but she gets to play with them), along with a few other fun treasures. First, she got my favorite childhood cookies, PassaTempo. She’ll love chewing on those. Then, I also got her a pair of flip flops, some little hair bows, new pacifier clips, and bubbles. Luis’ mom wanted her to have something from her too, so I picked up a navy blue polka dotted dress at OshKosh.

After posing for pictures, we made an attempt at getting Graciela to play with her new Easter stuff, and here is how it went:

I let Graciela calm down a little bit, and get away from those scary bubbles, and then we tried it again. This time, we had aunt Carolina watching her from the video chat on the computer (you’ll hear her voice in the background).

Happy Easter from our family to yours!
birthdays
April 1, 2012
This has been a weekend full of birthdays of some of our favorite loved ones. First came our niece Eva’s 1st birthday yesterday. Then today is both Luis’ dad’s birthday along with our niece Brisa’s 1st birthday. Graciela is very lucky to have 2 little cousins who are only 4 months older than her. Wish we could have celebrated with all of them in person.

Luis: We need to do something BIG to kick off MARCHtinso… after all, it IS Carolina’s birthday.
Natalia: We have to make her Birthday post so cool, and so epic, that it will blow everyone away!
Luis: Let’s make a video…
Natalia: Of us and Gracie singing her happy birthday?!?
Luis: No…. it’s been done.
Natalia: Of us eating her favorite food?!?
Luis: Eww.. nobody wants to watch a video of us eating.
Natalia: Of us singing her that Mañanitas song, that your family always plays on birthdays?
Luis: Hmmm.. now we’ve got something to work with.
Natalia: One more question, Lulu.
Luis: Yah?
Natalia: What is MARCHtinso????

Happy Birthday Carolina!!
It’s not us singing Las Mañanitas… but, it’s pretty close.
Love, Luis, Natalia, and Graciela!!
