easter again
April 13, 2012
Luis and I rarely check our mailbox. So if/when someone tries to send us something as a surprise, there is a good chance it will sit in our mailbox for 2-3 weeks. And that is exactly what happened with this lovely package sent to us from my parents in Brazil:

I was so surprised to see it when I got home from work. Then my brother mentions, “Oh mom’s box finally arrived.” Apparently he knew it was coming all along but didn’t bother mentioning anything so we could check the mailbox before Easter.

I’m pretty sure we are all stocked up on chocolate until Halloween… well, maybe not. Since there are 3 of us adults in the house (and Gracie’s grabby little hands), it may only last until next week. We love chocolate ;) Thanks mom!
happy easter
April 8, 2012
I’ve been obsessing about Brazilian Easter eggs for several months now. I had it stuck in my mind that we must have these eggs, no matter what it took. Fortunately, it did not take a lot because there was a Brazilian store right here in town that was selling them. To fill up the baskets for Luis and Felipe, I also bought some chokito (one of my favorite childhood chocolates from Brazil), the Easter staple Cadbury cream filled eggs, and Reese’s eggs. Then, to add a little healthiness to the baskets, I added some rice krispy treats (hello, those are made of cereal) and sugar-free gum (categorized as “healthy” because there is not sugar, duh!).

Graciela got the largest of the 3 baskets (because she is my favorite to shop for). She also got the chocolates (which are really for me to eat, but she gets to play with them), along with a few other fun treasures. First, she got my favorite childhood cookies, PassaTempo. She’ll love chewing on those. Then, I also got her a pair of flip flops, some little hair bows, new pacifier clips, and bubbles. Luis’ mom wanted her to have something from her too, so I picked up a navy blue polka dotted dress at OshKosh.

After posing for pictures, we made an attempt at getting Graciela to play with her new Easter stuff, and here is how it went:

I let Graciela calm down a little bit, and get away from those scary bubbles, and then we tried it again. This time, we had aunt Carolina watching her from the video chat on the computer (you’ll hear her voice in the background).

Happy Easter from our family to yours!
going green
March 20, 2012
We celebrated St. Patrick’s Day in style last Saturday. At first I had been considering going to a parade (mainly because I had bought this little outfit for Graciela and dyed her tights green so I needed to have somewhere to go). But the weather was cold and windy, so I opted against it. Instead we drove all the way across town to go pick up a couple of rocking chairs, which Gracie seems to be thoroughly enjoying.

We spent the rest of our day lounging around, working, and waiting to go out to dinner.

It was Felipe’s night to choose where we were going. So he chose Claim Jumper. (Felipe didn’t wear green because he “doesn’t own anything green.”)

Our waiter was super nice and brought Graciela her own little plate of finger foods. I let her have some apple sauce, but the rest she’ll have to wait until she gets some teeth to chew.

Hope you had a fun St. Patrick’s Day!
Pi Day
March 17, 2012
Leave it to Facebook (that I’m rarely on these days) to remind me at 9:30 pm that it was March 14th …i.e. 3/14 …i.e. Pi Day! So I did what anyone in this situation would do, I ran to the grocery stores to quickly buy a pie!

Since it was so late at night, Gracie and I were the only ones interested in having a slice:

valentines
February 14, 2012
I know she is only 6 months old, but I wanted to make valentines for Graciela… and when I say “I wanted to make” what I really mean is that I found an idea that I wanted Luis to recreate using our own personal touches. I told him what I wanted them to say, and this is what he came up with:

If I had a better camera, you would be able to tell that I filled a ziplock bag with sweedish fish, that the label is a really cute pink and purple, and that the border of the label Luis made has a cute little goldfish design both on the top and bottom.

The same idea is repeated in the back, except for Luis substituted the goldfish border with a heart border. I know Graciela is very excited to give these away :)
Happy Valentine’s Day!
Holy Christmas
January 26, 2012
For almost 5 weeks you heard not even a peep from us here on the blog. So, in this quick post, I will try and cover what you missed…
- Natalia’s brother came to town
- My parents came to town
- My brother, sister-in-law, and their two kiddos came to town
- My sister-in-law’s mom and sister came to town
- My sister came to town
- Natalia’s other brother, sister-in-law, and their three girls came to town

Our Christmas was loud and crazy… and it was awesome. I loved seeing Abel loving on little Gracie. I loved being able to hang out with my brother and sister. I loved being together.
happy thanksgiving
November 25, 2011
I don’t know about you, but our Thanksgiving was nice and relaxing. We woke up, did some grocery shopping, and then I went about cooking up a storm with the help of Carolina.

Graciela waited patiently playing and sleeping.

And a mere 5 hours later, it was all ready. Turkey, pork loin, vegetables, green bean casserole, stuffing, mashed potatoes, rolls, sweet potato casserole, pumpkin pie, and Daisy’s special green jello.

Even Graciela had her own special little turkey leg :)

I won’t name any names, but it was such a relaxing day that someone never even changed out of pajamas. It was nice to have spent the holiday with family. Now the countdown for Christmas begins!
