mirrors

Graciela loves mirrors, but refuses to smile on command.

play pen

Although Graciela has a pack ‘n play, we usually only use it for her to sleep in. For actual “play time” Luis sets up a makeshift play pen on the floor. She gets surrounded by pillows, so as to keep her from wandering and hitting her head on things that will make her scream. Then he adds a few toys for her to play with… and yes, she gets her very own keyboard to play with too! I know, seems a little absurd, but she watches us on our computers all the time and she wants to type too :)

moving down

With Graciela getting bigger and bigger, it was time to take out the little bassinet feature on her pack and play, and move her down to the bottom. Made me a little sad that my baby is starting to no longer be a baby.

celery

Eating is becoming more and more of a challenge as Graciela gets bigger and stronger and wants everything we have. So last time we went to Chili’s I ordered a side of celery for her to chew on/play with.

yummers

Rice cereal!

Rice cereal!

family

My sister-in-law, Niki, very graciously agreed to take Merino family pictures when we were all together over the Christmas holiday. I just love everything about this picture: Abel’s fake smile, Brisa’s mini tantrum, Graciela’s nonchalant I-don’t-care-if-I-am-going-to-fall-off-your-lap look, and Carolina trying not to lose a baby. It really embodies the word “family.”

big eyes

Everyone comments on how Graciela has such “big eyes.” We’ve come to realize that it is not that she has gigantic eyes. Her eyes are actually fairly normal sized. It is the eyebrows raised as high as humanly possible that make her look like she is trying to see more than her normal-sized eyes will allow.

computers

She loves them, just like we do.

pack ‘n play

This is what Graciela’s pack ‘n play is supposed to look like:

This is what it has been looking like lately:

Almost as soon as we put Graciela down, she will immediately knock down her little mobile. She sits up pretty well on her own, but when she plays, she gets overly excited and falls down. So the pillows are to help stabilize her and keep me from having to sit her up over and over again. The toys are kind of hit and miss. She sometimes loves them and is sometimes utterly bored by them.
