When Graciela was really little, we’d put her in her bouncy chair and would be hands-free for dinner. Then she got a little bigger and we’d put her in her excersaucer. Then she started eating solid food and wanted to sit with us at the table. And at that point, I decided it was simply much too difficult to eat with her trying to grab at all my food. So we finally broke down and purchased a high chair.
And now she insists on grabbing the spoon when she eats.

Who knew an 8 month old could make such a mess?
We have kept Graciela corralled in the living room by cornering off the steps on the upper right-hand corner with the love seat and then using the coffee table, rocking chair, and exersaucer as a make-shift gate on the other side of the living room. Sadly, now she will just push the exersaucer out of the way or crawl under the rocking chair because she has decided that playing with the trash is so much fun.

Graciela has been practicing standing on her own. I have been trying not to encourage her because I really didn’t want her walking too early. Unfortunately, she has a mind of her own. She’ll pull herself up on a toy (or even in her bathtub) and then let go. When she does it in her bath, I tell her, “Baby, sit sit sit.” She thinks I’m playing a game and will sit for a second then get right back up.

Graciela is obsessed with climbing on top of anything she can. We’ve had to double stack plastic bins to keep her corralled in one area of our room while Luis works. Sadly, this is only going to contain her for a short period of time. She has already figured out how to climb on the bed frame. It is only a matter of time before she gets to the top of the bins.
She really will climb on top of anything she can get her little feet on. Here is another excellent example:
That is a pack of diapers that was on the floor. She used it so that she could get higher up to the window.

Graciela’s hair is slowly getting curlier and curlier. See her curls on the sides of her head? I’ve also noticed it getting wavy on top. I’m very curious to see what her hair ends up looking like. Mine? Luis’? A combination of both of ours? Only time will tell.

Graciela has been invited to her very first birthday party. So we had to go shopping to find a gift for the birthday boy. We hit up Target last night, and since she is such a big girl going to her first party, she needed to be a big girl sitting in the cart too!
She is looking less and less like a baby to me.
And then our cashier gave her a sticker for being such a good girl :)
